The Foundation was established in mid 2009 with the following mission statement:

To enhance the State of Western Australia's capacity for learning, accessing, collecting, preserving and receiving information.

In order for us to deliver sustainable and innovative programs to the people of Western Australia the Foundation will work with businesses (both small and large) and individuals, along with other like minded groups to promote the value of the State Library to Western Australians. The Foundation and its first major project “Our Page in History” was officially launched by His Excellency Dr Ken Michael AC Governor of Western Australia on the 24th of November 2009. “Our Page in History” is an electronic fundraising project that will be a way of preserving the State's unique and colourful past as well as act as a revenue stream to digitise the collection of works held by the State Library of Western Australia.
