Find Statistics
The Library has a comprehensive collection of statistical resources, including an extensive collection of Western Australian statistical materials. The collection covers a wide range of general, social, economic, and industry statistics gathered from a wide variety of sources.
Books and Journals
Use the word statistics in a keyword search to identify print resources held in the State Library collection. e.g. Western Australia statistics.
Electronic Resources
There are a number of electronic resources available for statistics information in the State Library. Search results from these resources may be printed; downloaded to a thumb drive or CD-ROM; or emailed to your own computer (subject to the licence agreements and software functionality of individual databases). Our Databases from Home service provides access to a smaller range of statistics resources. All you need is your public library card number and you can begin accessing some statistical information from your home computer. Try these databases from home:
- Australia and New Zealand Reference Centre an Ebsco database. Include the word "statistics" in a keyword search eg "nursing statistics"
- Business Source Elite an abridged version of Business Source Premier. Search using the word "statistics" in a keyword search eg "construction statistics"
Available only in the Alexander Library Building are the following databases:
- Business Source Premier produced by Ebsco. Use the Enhanced Business Searching Interface to access industry profiles and worldwide country reports.
- Gale's General Onefile and Popular Magazines offer good coverage. Narrow an industry search with the subject term "statistics" eg "broadcasting industry" and statistics.
Internet Sources
The internet also provides a good starting point for researching business statistics, especially current statistics.
Western Australia
- Regional Development Commisisons : The nine non metropolitan regions in Western Australia are each served by a Regional Development Commission. Each Commission is a source of economic and social statistics at a regional level.
- Resource Statistics from the Western Australian Department of Industry and Resources.
- State Finance Publications is the source of official statistics relating to the Western Australian economy provided by the Department of Treasury and Finance.
- Western Australian Community Profiles : produced by the Office of Multicultural Interests in conjunction with the Australian Bureau of Statistics they cover the socio-economic and demographic characteristics of communities in Western Australia.
Australian Statistical Agencies
- The Australian Bureau of Statistics is the primary source of detailed official Australian demographic, economic, industry, and environmental statistics, including Census data.
- The Reserve Bank of Australia is the primary source of an extensive range of official Australian financial statistics.
Overseas Statistical Agencies
Many overseas government agencies provide comprehensive statistical data covering a wide range of subject areas.
- FedStats is the gateway to over 100 US government agencies' statistics.
- Eurostat provides detailed statistics relating to members of the European Union.
- UK Statistics Authority provides official statistics relating to the United Kingdom.
International Organisations
- Asian Development Bank (ADB) Economics and Statistics presents current economic, financial, and social data on the ADB's member countries.
- International Monetary Fund (IMF) produces a range of economic and financial statistical data related to IMF member countries.
- OECD Statistics Portal provides access to social and economic statistics for all OECD member countries.
- Undata UN statistical portal which allows searching across the many United Nations statistical databases and agencies.
- World Bank Data and Statistics provides key data related to developing countries.

- OffStats This database provides access to free statistics from offical sources on the web. Weblinks are arranged by country, region, and subject.

- Australian Bureau of Agriculture and Resource Economics (ABARE) Provides comprehensive data on Australian agriculture, fisheries, forestry, energy and minerals industries and the quality of the Australian environment. Includes Australian Crop Reports.
- Australian Food Statistics Annual review from the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF).
- FAOSTAT (UN Food & Agricultural Organisation) Provides time-series and cross sectional data relating to food and agriculture for some 200 countries

- Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Trade and Ecomomic Data and Publications (DFAT) provides a snapshot of trade statistics as well as in depth analysis of trends and patterns in Australia's trade.
