Passenger Lists
Key Resources
Ancestry Library Edition - available within the State Library building and in most public libraries in Western Australia
Tasmanian Passenger Arrivals, 1829-1957 has digitised material taken from selected immigration books at the Archives Office of Tasmania. This includes the Marine Board of Hobart reports of ships arrivals mentioned below. To navigate to this dataset, select Search - Australia & NZ - Tasmania - Immigration & Travel within Ancestry.
LINC Tasmania - Index to passengers and ship arrivals - 19th Century
This index is only partially complete but is a useful alternative if you can't find what you're looking for on Ancestry. The index gives the passenger's name, ship name, port of departure, date of arrival, remarks and microfilm reference number. The original passenger list can then be consulted in the State Library on microfilm (see entry below) or by using the Browse function on Ancestry in Tasmanian Passenger Arrivals, 1829-1957 (see entry above).
Marine Board of Hobart. Reports of ships arrivals, 1829-1902
This collection of 18 reels of microfilm can be used in conjunction with the index on the LINC Tasmania website mentioned above.
Trove
The Digitised newspapers section of Trove covers the period up to 1954 and is a very useful source for passenger arrivals. We recommend using Advanced search and selecting Tasmanian newspapers.
Don't forget to use Australia-wide resources for passenger lists which are detailed on our Passenger Lists page.
