British Catalogue of Music Classification Scheme
The scores in the music collection are arranged using the British Catalogue of Music Classification Scheme (BCM). This scheme organises scores by grouping each instrument together on the shelves. It is further organised by genre within the instrumental groupings. For example, all rock vocal music, all piano sonatas, all flute and piano arrangements etc are shelved together. The scores are filed by “word” rather than letter, e.g. Q/RC is filed before QPK.
