Scores for Loan
The State Library has music for trombone, trombone and piano, and trombone with other instruments, as well as music for bass trombone. Basically a classical collection, it contains tutors, methods and exercises as well as a small selection of popular and jazz arrangements.
We collect most works listed from Grade 4 and above in the Australian Music Examinations Board syllabus for trombone and bass trombone. There is also music for ensembles that include trombone, from duets to orchestral works.
Reference Material
The reference collection of books, journals and electronic resources includes material on the history of the instrument, construction, technique, repertoire and bibliographies.
Recordings
We hold a collection of CDs and LPs that can be listened to on-site. You can also listen to tracks using the on-line database Naxos Music Library. There is a small classical and jazz loan collection of audio cassettes available.
Searching
All material can be found using the catalogue. Scores and recordings are best found by doing an author (eg. composer) search. You may search by title but be aware of the different languages used in music publishing, such as dances instead of danses. Use the Guide to Searching for Classical Music Scores as a starting point. All trombone music can be found on the shelves at the classification WU.
You may also search by subject. For arrangements, add the term Arranged at the end of the subject. Useful subject searches are:
- Trombone music
- Trombone and ... (eg. piano music)
- Trombone - Methods
- Bass trombone (expanded as above)
Find information by using the keyword or subject option. Some useful search terms are:
- Trombone
- Construction
- History
- Instruction and study
- Bibliography
- History and criticism
