Scores for Loan

The State Library has a comprehensive collection arrangements of the major orchestral works from symphonies, overtures and concertos through to show and movie tunes. These sets are available for an extended loan period of 3 months to enable sufficient rehearsal and performance time. We also hold a large collection of miniature and study scores, covering the major orchestral repertoire and a small collection of full scores.

Reference Material

The reference collection of books, journals and electronic resources includes material on history of the orchestra and bands, repertoire, discographies, bibliographies, analysis, arranging, conducting, rehearsal techniques as well as books on how to listen and appreciate to orchestral music.

Recordings

We hold a collection of CDs and LPs that can be listened to on-site. You can also listen to tracks using the on-line database Naxos Music Library. Recordings of different performances of standard works are collected to enhance the listening experience. There is a small classical and jazz loan collection of audio cassettes available.

Searching

Scores and recordings can be found by using our catalogue and searching by composer. You may search by title, but you may not find all copies of the work if you only use one translation of the title, such as sinfonia instead of symphonies. Please use our Guide to Searching for Classical Music scores as a starting point. All performance sets need to be requested in advance using the retrieval button.

You may also search by subject. For arrangements, add the term Arranged at the end of the subject. Useful subject searches for performance sets are:
