Borrow Direct or Get-It!
How do I borrow? ... Join the Library!
Membership is available free of charge to all residents of Western Australia.
To join the Library, complete the membership form.
You can register online or apply in person at any enquiry desk in the building.You will be issued with a membership card: My Library Card.

You will need to provide proof of identity and current residential address. This needs to be an item showing your name and residential address from an official institution. For example:
- Western Australian driver's licence
- electricity, gas, water, mobile phone or internet bill
- health care card/pensioner card from Centrelink
Children under the age of 18 require the signature of a parent or guardian.
What can I borrow?
Items which have been approved for loan through the inter library loan service are able to be borrowed. You can borrow up to 8 items at a time. You must have your membership card with you to borrow or renew items. Not all Library items are available for loan. Rare, valuable or heavy demand items are available only within the Library building.

Can I renew my loan?
Yes! To avoid replacement costs and administration fees being charged, please renew loans by:

All loans supplied using the Get-It! service must be renewed through your Get-It! "My Requests" record.
If other readers are waiting for loan, items cannot be renewed.
Where do I checkout and return items?
The circulation desk is located on the ground floor. Our staff will help you with the checkout and return process.
Battye Library (3rd floor) items to be borrowed need to be handed to staff on the 3rd floor for transit to the circulation desk. Items from other floors can be taken directly to the ground floor for checkout.
Returns are made to reception on the ground floor.
What happens if I lose or damage Library items?
Take care of the items you borrow as a replacement cost will be charged for items that are not returned or that are damaged beyond repair. A non refundable administration fee of $43.15 will also be charged for each invoice sent.
