Government Journals
The State Library holds many serials produced by Western Australian Government agencies. These can include annual reports, in-house social magazines, electoral rolls, acts and statutes, yearbooks, etc. A small selection can be found below and others can be located in the State Library Catalogue.
- Minutes and Votes and Proceedings of the Parliament ... with Papers Presented to both Houses
Published 1870 to date (1870-1900 on microfilm), they contain the day-to-day procedures of Parliament, such as notices of motions, questions, votes, etc. They also contain annual reports of government agencies, reports of royal commissions and committees of enquiry and public accounts. - Acts of the Parliament of Western Australia
A complete set of WA acts from 1832 is held. Also held is a set of the latest reprints of some acts which include amendments. - Western Australian Year Book
Published 1889-1917 (on microfilm) and 1957-1998, they provide a statistical overview of WA, along with many descriptive and historical articles. - Blue Book for the Year ... / compiled from official returns in the Colonial Secretary's Office
Published 1834-1905, they contain a list of the civil establishment of WA as well as various statistics. Their function was taken over by the Public Service Lists and the Statistical Registers of Western Australia. - Bulletin / Geological Survey of Western Australia
Published from 1898, each bulletin contains information relating to various aspects of the geology of WA. - Western Australian Government Gazette
Published from 1836 to date, they contain a wealth of information on Western Australians and their dealings with government and with government policy and procedure. - The Western Australian Parliamentary Handbook
Published from 1922 (not annually), they contain political and official biographies of elected members of both houses of parliament from 1870. They also list Governors, present and previous ministries (since 1890) and various lists of officials. - Law Almanac
Published from 1897 to date, they provide a complete legal directory of all judges, barristers, solicitors, lawyers, public notaries, etc. registered to practise in WA. - Parliamentary Debates (Hansard) : Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly
Published from 1876 to date, they provide full text of the speeches of the various members of both Houses of Parliament. A further volume covering 1870-1875 was compiled from newspaper reports of the time. - Police Gazette, Western Australia
Published from 1876 to date, they contain information relating to criminals and police (appointments, transfers, resignations, etc). - The Education Circular
Published 1899-1994 by the Education Department, they contain information from the Education Department of interest to teachers and lists of school teachers (up to 1969). From 1995 the Education Circular has appeared as an inset in School Matters. - Schools & Staffing
Published 1970-1996 by the Education Department, this took over from Education Circular in providing lists of school teachers. - Landscope : the Journal of the Western Australian Department of Conservation and Land Management
Published from 1985 to date by the (now) Department of Environment and Conservation, this is a glossy quarterly publication containing articles on the natural history of WA. - Public Service List
Published 1909-1987 & 1990, they contain a list of the civil establishment of WA. - Statistical Register of Western Australia : 1896-1969
Published 1896-1969, they contain a wealth of statistical information on WA.
