Collections

The Music and Performing Arts library has a good collection of scores for flute.  There is a range of tutors and exercises for learning the flute as well as a large number of classical works for flute, often with piano accompaniment.  Also there is a selection of popular music arranged for flute from Broadway to jazz, from motown to rock.

Flute Music of the 18th Century : an Annotated Bibliography
A comprehensive repertoire of music written for flute in the eighteenth century. The book is organised alphabetically by composer with an index of instrumental combinations in the second part.

Flute Technique
Written by Gareth Morris, former Professor of Flute at the Royal Academy of Music, this small book looks at the history of the flute, playing technique, fingering charts, style, practice, orchestral playing and repertoire.

Great Flute Makers of France : the Lot and Godfrey Families, 1650-1900
Documents the history and work of two influential French flute making families. The book also includes information on other 18th century flute makers.

Carl Nielsen International Flute Competition
An international flute competition held in Odense, Denmark every four years.  Web site lists previous winners, jurors, contact details as well as a history of the competition.

Jean-Pierre Rampal Flute Competition
Held in honour of Jean-Pierre Rampal, an international flute competition for flutists under the age of 30 years. The web site provides participants' names, jurors, rules, history and contact details.

Kobe International Flute Competition
Web site for Kobe International Flute Competition, held in Kobe City, Japan every four years. Lists competition pieces required, rules, previous winners and contestants, and information on the qualifying audition. Available in English and Japanese.

Cincinnati Flute Symposium
The Cincinnati Flute Symposium is a week long series of rehearsals, lessons, masterclasses and recitals for flutists of all ages and levels held at the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music. Applicants are chosen by taped auditions. The site includes a downloadable application form and information on fees, competitions, accommodation and the University of Cincinnati.

Scottish International Flute Summer School
Provides all the information for this flute summer school including course details, mini biographies of the teachers, a small repertoire list, fees, location description, contact details and a booking form.

The British Flute Society

The Dutch Flute Society
Web site of the Dutch Flute Society which was established in 1992 to encourage flutists to increase their knowledge of the flute. The site is mainly written in Dutch.

Flute Society of NSW
Web site of the Flute Society of New South Wales, a non-profit organisation that promotes flute playing and listening. The site has a link list page, event calendar, full text of 'Bulletin', Eisteddfod results for previous years, a bulletin board, list of flute teachers (members only) and committee listings.

Greater Boston Flute Association
The Greater Boston Flute Society was established in 1992 to provide cultural opportunities for flutists.
