Prompt Copy Playscript Service

Prompt Copy is a collection of more than 3,500 plays and film scripts collected by the State Library since the 1960's. The collection is broad in its scope and covers Greek tragedy to Restoration comedy, modern classics by Pirandello, Brecht and Pinter, contemporary comedies by Neil Simon, Alan Ayckbourn, Wendy Wasserstein and Ben Elton. Australian drama is well represented, from Jack Davis to David Williamson and Nick Enright. There are over 500 Australian plays in the collection which are listed here in author or title order for your convenience. To learn more about the collection read our media release.

Recent Australian Additions to Prompt Copy
In the year 1997/98, we purchased over 300 new play titles. This commitment to enhancing the collection will continue in future years. Some recent titles are noted below:

Stolen / Jane Harrison
A powerful drama about the experiences of the "stolen generation" of Aboriginal people.

Road to Nhill / Alison Tilson
Original screenplay from the motion picture with its whimsical and somewhat quirky portrayal of a carload of rural lady bowlers who meet up with an accident.

Third World Blues / David Williamson
More biting social comment from the pen of this prolific Australian playwright.

Access to Prompt Copy
The Prompt Copy collection is available either via inter-library loan from a library near you or by visiting the Alexander Library Building where the collection has been made available directly for loan from the Music and Performing Arts Library. Membership and loans can be arranged.
