Public Libraries are for Everyone!
For the Very Young
Sharing the joy of books with your child is one of the most important things you can do as a parent - and it's lots of fun! No child is too young to join the library. Enrol your baby today. Libraries lend board books for babies, a wide variety of picture books, books, CDs and tapes of nursery rhymes as well as a comprehensive collection of books for parents. Many libraries offer free storytime sessions for children. These will introduce you and your child to a wide range of the best books published for young children. Storytime sessions will enhance your child's literacy skills and lay the foundation for your child to develop a lifelong love of reading.
When They're Older
All libraries provide a range of fiction and non-fiction resources for primary school age children. Beginner readers, for children starting to read by themselves, are available. You will also find lots of terrific stories you will want to try. Public libraries provide a wealth of resources to help with research for school projects and assignments. Ask your local library staff to help you find what you need.
Teenagers
Many libraries have a separate area for young adults to meet in and browse through a collection of fiction and non-fiction resources. Some libraries also provide magazines, comics and graphic novels as well as special activities specifically for teenagers.
