Public Library Resources and Services for Seniors

There are 236 public libraries throughout Western Australia. Public libraries are for everyone and are free to use. Staff in public libraries are there to assist you with your educational, cultural, recreational and informational needs. Resources and services for seniors offered by public libraries are detailed below.

Topics of Information
Public libraries can help seniors with information on health issues such as grandparenting, exercise, bereavement, community information, local history, retirement, travel, leisure activities, being a carer, disability , hobbies and crafts, gardening and much, much more. 

Types of Information Formats
Public libraries provide information in a variety of formats. Some of these are large print books and spoken word cassettes or books on tape .  There are also videos, CD ROM's, information from the Internet, and pamphlet material about clubs, events and seniors' activities.

Services and Opportunities for Seniors
Many public libraries offer a range of services and opportunities for seniors. These may include events and activities for seniors, access to computers to type letters or documents, opportunities to meet other seniors, home delivery services for those housebound and unable to visit the library, opportunities to learn to use the Internet, intergenerational activities where seniors and children, for example, can interact, a place to read, public notice boards with community information for seniors and access to photocopiers.
