WA Short Stories index provides references to short stories appearing in published anthologies and serials in the collections of the Battye Library. The index includes short stories by Western Australians published in anthologies held in the collections of the State Library or WA public libraries.
WA authors of short stories have been defined broadly to include any writer with a significant involvement in Western Australian literary activity. Thus, as well as writers of Western Australian birth, writers who have taken up residence in Western Australia or whose creative activity is significantly associated with Western Australia are included.
Short stories comprise any work which is described as a short story or appears in a collection or anthology of short stories. Also, included are works which are described as tales, yarns, fables, short fiction, or by similar terms, so long as the works are imaginative works of the author's own creation and intended for publication in a written form. Works of a purely oral nature that have been transcribed into print are not included, such as folklore, Aboriginal myths and legends, anecdotes, etc.
Whenever known, if a short story has appeared in more than one publication, details of all the publications in which it has appeared are provided in the short story index entry.
