At Work

Work clothes have traditionally been distinctive clothing appropriate for easily identifiable occupations. However the types of clothing and the kinds of occupations favoured by West Australians are hardly unique to our region. Existing work clothes have been adopted by West Australians at work.

For example, while gold and coal miners have been important to Western Australia, their clothing has hardly been distinctive from miners in other areas of Australia.

Working in the north - 1920s

This was true for people working in all regions of Western Australia including the far north and northwest, where Europeans often wore the pith helmet of the British colonial tropics along with the lighter cooler suits.
