Market Gardens - Carnarvon
New areas of the State were opened for fruit and vegetable growing. Banana growing in particular became an important industry in Carnarvon where irrigation channels
allowed farmers to grow tropical and sub-tropical crops for both domestic consumption and export markets. Irrigation from the Gascoyne River allowed bananas
and pineapples to be grown in an area which had only 200 mm of annual rainfall, from as early as the 1920s.
