Between 1901 and 1914 the importance of camels in hauling water and supplies to the mining camps of the Goldfields dwindled thanks to the construction of the
Eastern Goldfields Water Scheme pipeline and a railway line connecting Kalgoorlie with Perth, followed on by the completion of the Trans-Australian railway line in 1917.
