Self-Guided Visits
School groups are welcome to visit the library for self-guided experiences. Familiarise your students with the states major resource for life-long learning and bring them into their State Library. The Place (Yrs K to 3)
The Place is open when the library is open and filled with books, displays of original picture book art, puppets, and items to encourage children’s imaginative play. Come to our regular story-time sessions or create your own programs using this jam packed resource. Your imagination and your students’ creativity are the limits…
The Discovery Lounge (yrs 6 to 12)
The Discovery Lounge provides students with access to over 50 computers and free wi-fi access. Students will also find current Australian &internatinal newspapers, flexible work spaces and State Library information.
Music and Performing Arts Library
This unique public lending music library contains a large collection of items that complement all areas of music study. The collection includes scores and play scripts for loan, and services such as listening and viewing pods. Membership is free. Serious students of music should not miss an introduction to this seminal resource.
JS Battye Library of West Australian History (Yrs 6-12)
Students will find resources for any project relating to Western Australia in the J S Battye Library. Students can access the pictorial and ephemera collections, Western Australian biographies, Government publications such as Hansard and microfilm of the Western Australian newspapers and research diverse topics such as biodiversity, river systems, town planning and local government.
Programs
Our education experiences offer students a chance to engage with our unique collections through exciting experiences facilitated by our Education Officers. Our full suite of programs can be viewed in our What's On 2013 brochure.
All programs support the Curriculum Framework and run for approximately 45mins to 1 hour. Excursions to the State Library are free of charge and must be booked at least two weeks in advance.
