Film Screenings
The Wednesday Matinee features films and videos from the collections held by the Library. Screenings usually run for about 60 minutes. Admission is free and screening start at 12.30pm. Bookings are not necessary.
To enjoy some films before the matinees begin, check out the classic Australian films based on books screening on the big screen in the cultural centre as part of the Love2Read Cafe and the National Year of Reading.

What is it that makes a “star”? Various movie stars are examined for the qualities that made them famous.

This is the story of two unknown London-based architects and their journey as winners in an international design competition in 1997, held by the then Premier of Victoria, Jeff Kennett, to create a bold new civic and cultural centre for Melbourne.

The edge of the world [1997] 55 min
A documentary about the writer Tim Winton. The film includes interviews with Winton about his work, his influences and what drives him.

Acknowledges the work of past Australian comics and the tradition they created. The new generation reflect on their humble, sometimes humiliating, but often hilarious beginnings.
