Lindsay Peet recognised as Fellow of the Library Board of Western Australia
Historian, collector and long-time State Library supporter, Mr Lindsay Peet, will be honoured as a Fellow of the Library Board of Western Australia at a ceremony on 3 April 2012.
Professor Matthew Allen, Chairman of the Library Board, expressed his pleasure in recognising Mr Peet’s important and lasting contributions to the preservation of Western Australia’s cultural heritage through conferring this award. Lindsay will join a distinguished group of Fellows of the Library Board of Western Australia who have shaped and guided library and archival services throughout the state.
Lindsay Peet has been a great friend, generous supporter, and contributor to the State’s heritage collections, and a passionate advocate for the conservation of Western Australian material.
Lindsay was instrumental in the establishment of the Historical Records Rescue Consortium (HRRC) Project. Through his advocacy and financial contributions, Lindsay’s assistance demonstrated significant and tangible support from the Western Australian Community, helping to securing a $3 million Lotterywest grant for the Consortium. A number of years later, similar support by Lindsay helped to establish a project to preserve the Library’s unique Oral History collection.
Lindsay Peet also made significant contributions to enable the establishment of the State Library of Western Australia Foundation.
In 2009, Lindsay Peet was recognised by the Friends of Battye Library (Inc) as a “Gem of Time” in recognition of his efforts and contributions to the recording, collection and preservation of Western Australian history.
He is a professional historian, who holds a particular interest in military aviation, and has written numerous works on the history and role of the armed forces in Western Australia.
The Library Board of Western Australia is delighted to confer upon Mr Lindsay Peet the award of Fellow of the Library Board of Western Australia.
